Biography
Feyza Akova completed her PhD in Sociology at the University of Notre Dame in May 2025. Her research examines American converts to Sufi Islam, offering insights into the relationship between spirituality, formal faith, and intentional social change. She has published in Sociology of Religion and the Routledge Handbook of Islamic Ritual and Practice. Feyza received several awards for both research and teaching, including the John J. Kane Memorial Award for Outstanding Graduate Student from Notre Dame’s Department of Sociology and the Excellence in Teaching Award from the Midwestern Association of Graduate Schools, which recognizes the outstanding graduate instructor across universities in the Midwest.
